Wave immersion method. Purpose and efficiency

Wave immersion method is one of the teaching methods in CISC for primary school. Its essence is in studying all the school subjects through the prism of one theme within a month.

What is the purpose of this method, what is it aimed at, what are its advantages and disadvantages? The answers to all these questions are revealed by homeform teacher in CISC_Kyiv, educator with 23 years of experience, Lidia Fisunova.

The main purpose of wave immersion method

The purpose of wave immersions is focusing on the student and the new, higher quality of teaching. Due to this approach a student is ACTIVELY involved into the educational process and the co-creation together with teacher and the team of peers.

Through this method we help the children reveal their authentic way of thinking and to realize and fulfill their potential; we teach them to cooperate instead of competing.

What is the wave immersion method aimed at

The wave immersion method is aimed at project activity. And  a project is literally a “launched forward” prototype of a certain object. In our case, intellectual product.

We gradually move towards certain results, we have a clearly set itinerary to obtaining such results; within a single month we work on this project, we study the subjects through the prism of one theme, we apply various methods and we use some unconventional contents of the lessons – STREAM-lessons, theme-based excursions, meetings with guests, manufacturing of products with our own hands at creative workshops, master-classes etc.

What is the difference in efficiency between traditional teaching methods and wave immersions

While in the past the purpose of education was the mastering of the content, in the wave immersion method we teach the children to explore and absorb the educational content, to apply the new  knowledge in the real world which is ever-changing and progressing.

At the “wave” lessons all modern technologies, instruments and digital resources, game practices, methods for the development of critical thinking are applied in much more efficient way.

What additional skills a child develops while studying the school subjects this way

The new generation of children raises the question “WHAT FOR?”. That’s what we focus on, and search for the answers. This way, we develop new manners of thinking: version, visual, creative, analytical,  existential. We teach children not only to know, but to contemplate and master the knowledge.
